Gone are the days of 'wet' photography ( that's what the French call old film work!). The transition to digital was a bit crude but that's all changed. The cameras shoot big files and just a click will get you into some HD video. We collect the images as RAW files (digital 'negatives') and use all the magic of CS5+ to bring the images to colourful life and accuracy. On yacht shoots we do all the photoshop work as we shoot...layering and colour balanced to be print-ready when we hit the studio (or ready for the press release).
To date, the full list of superyachts in the photographic portfolio number over 150 and growing fast. The photo credit ‘Roy Owen Roberts’ can be seen on many pieces of current brochure material, newsletters and throughout the yachting press.
With a degree in Fine Art, Roy has used this visual skill, combined it with the love of yachting to create memorable images both for interiors, exteriors and lifestyle subjects.
Shooting around the world, on board, from chase boats and from helicopters, Roy’s work is supplemented by video footage shot at the same time. DSLR cameras allow HD video to be collected in parellel to stills, a very cost effective process. With bandwidth increasing, video as 'rich media' is the way to go with Youtube, web videos, mobile apps and viral opportunities.
